How to Play a Wayunki Chime

There are three different ways to play the Wayunki Chime

Very specific effects can be achieved when playing the Wayunki if the mouth is placed close to the opening. You can create your desired results by "articulating" different sounds by changing the size and shape of the oral cavity. Do this by creating all kinds of movements of the mouth, such as by twisting the mouth, the use of the tongue and the entire jaw.

The chime also includes a stick/mallet that is used to play by tapping on the tongue of the chime. Tapping with the mallet causes the Wayunki to sing clear and resonant notes.

The Wayunki Chime can also be used to play softer sounds. The Wayunki chime can be attached to the cord with the wooden ring that is included with the chime. When the Wayunki is held by the cord, it can be rocked, spun, or swun to create more a more ambient effect.

Scale Options for the Wayunki Chime

Each Wayunki is tuned to 6 notes from one scale. Notes are chosen to create chords with a specific aesthetic. This ensures a sense of harmony among all the notes, and allows for intuitive playing as there are no dissonant notes included in the scale. This makes the Wayunki perfect for anyone, regardless of their experience level. When choosing a scale, select the option that resonates most deeply with you.
